Lake Thurman, South Carolina

Hatfield-McCoy Trails in West Virginia

Bob, Brenda and JR Mauck, John and Shirley Miller, and Doug, Amy and Sophie Wagner vacationed in July in the mountains of West Virginia. While there they rode several miles of the Hatfield McCoy Trails. The trip was enjoyed by all.

Palmetto, Florida

Enjoying a vacation with their Beacon in Palmetto, Florida were cousins, from left, Paul, Grace, Austin and Hannah Yonak. A trip to Busche Gardens was the highlight of their week-long trip.

Washington D.C. to the Spelling Bee

Peyton Hall took the Monroe County Beacon with him to Washington, D.C . when he participated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Peyton represented our area well, finishing 47th out of 281 participants. He is pictured enjoying a day on Capitol Hill.


On January 7, the Beacon traveled to the Columbia Gorge area of Oregon where Dennis Dietrich visited his twin sister Karol Dietrich-Forner at her Morgan horse farm. Also pictured is RVK Pennington, a registered Morgan gelding named after their late father, Ralph “Penny” Dietrich, Clarington.

San Francisco

John and Kay Curtis, along with Heber and Linda Piatt, recently traveled to San Francisco for the annual NADO Conference. They are pictured here with the Monroe County Beacon  at Fisherman’s Wharf, with Alcatraz Island in the background. Rob Richardson and Michelle Kanzigg, formerly from Monroe County, took their Beacon that Michelle's mother has sent to her every week to Kauai' Hawaii. Among other things to celebrate, they celebrated 25 years since their first date. From snorkeling, sailing the Na Pali coast, relaxing on the beach, watching the Oregon/Oregon St. football game ( Go Ducks ) and celebrating Arianny Celeste birthday with her, it was the most amazing week ever. We want to say hi to our family and friends in OH, WV, KY, WA, and OR for all your love and support.

Salt Creek Overlook in Wyoming

William G. (Billy) Graham, Plainview resident, spent several days in South Dakota and Wyoming just a day after a blizzard killed hundreds of cattle with up to four feet of snow in Wall, Rapid City and the Deadwood area.

the Carolinas

Carol and Carl Hayes and Alice and Butch Goddard enjoyed a vacation staying at Ocean Isle Beach, NC, while taking in Christmas shows at Alabama Theater, Carolina Opry and Pirates Voyage in Myrtle Beach, SC. They also took in the river boats at Little River and electronic bingo at Longs, SC. They had a blast.
