Regional College and Career Night Slated For Sept. 15

There is no better time to plan for the future than today. Parents and students (7-12th grades) should plan to attend The College and Career Night on Sept. 15.

Because education creates opportunities, members of the Switzerland of Ohio H.E.L.P. (Higher Education and Learning Partnership) and The Kiwanis Club of Woodsfield are co-sponsoring the Night Sept. 15 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Swiss Hills Career Center (located 8 miles East of Woodsfield.)

The free event will be a one-stop-shop for answers on higher education and learning opportunities in the region. It will feature a number of invitees including colleges, available military recruiters, as well as information on trades and adult education. Information will also be available on financial aid options; post-secondary and dual enrollment options and more.

“Now in its fifth year, the event provides essential components for success in education and learning,” said H.E.L.P. Chair Gwynn Stewart. “The event is an excellent opportunity for students in the area to explore college and career options, as well as financial aid resources and more,” added Stewart. A mix of small and larger schools have been invited.

The event is free and with support from the Swiss Hills food service program, refreshments will be available.

Attendees (from ages 7-12th grades) may register to win prizes including a Tablet computer. A $50 Visa card will be awarded to one student, drawn from event participants, from each of the district’s high schools (Beallsville, River and Monroe Central) and Swiss Hills.

Similar college fairs are held annually in the region, but are often held during the day. This college fair takes place in the evening to allow for more parents to attend with their children as well as working adults.

Exhibitors scheduled to attend at this time include: Art Institutes; Belmont College; Malone Univ.; Monroe County Dept. of Job & Family Services; Mount Vernon Nazarene Univ.; Muskingum Univ.; OSU-ATI; Ohio Univ.; Ohio Univ.– Eastern;  The Career Center - Adult Technical Training; Univ. of Cincinnati; Washington State Community College; West Virginia Northern Community College; Zane State College. Many other colleges have been invited, as well as the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy; U.S. Air Force; U.S. Marine Corps.

The 2014 event is sponsored with support from: Belmont College; Buckeye Hills; Kiwanis Club of Woodsfield; Monroe Soil & Water; Noble County Community Foundation; Ohio Univ. Eastern; OSU Extension; Shopko and South Central Power.
